"Just for a bit of context, Nubya Garcia was 5 years old when Chris Bowden released his seminal Time Capsule album. A record that was as portentous as it was “retrospective”. Many of that record’s qualities are present in his new project, with longtime cohort, drummer Neil Bullock and singer Louise Warren. As musically rich as it gets, the tunes evolve with unexpected harmonic twists, at times giddily joyous, at others more sombre and reflective. Bowden handling instrumental textures as well as his (never been better) horn playing, Bullock’s dextrous propulsion and Warren’s emotive voice are both perfect foils.I got very excited listening to this last night, at times it felt like the record some of the younger generation of more hyped jazz artists have been trying to make. Not that he’s been away, he’s been building up to this album, hopefully this will prove to be a widely acclaimed return of an og don!"

Brecker meets Beyonce... a new project by alto saxophonist Chris Bowden. Chris built a big reputation with his Time Capsule album on Soul Jazz Records, and Slightly Askew album on Ninja Tunes. He’s back with a wonderful new project: The Hypnos Files. The new album release featuring Louise Warren’s vocals and the rhythmic intensity of drummer Neil Bullock marks a new and intriguing direction for Bowden. The music of The Hypnos Files is performed using vocals plus brilliant electronic arrangements and, of course, Bowden’s characteristic funky and bluesy saxophone.
